A Newham scouts group has raised more than £2,500 in aid of Richard House Children’s Hospice.

The scouts, who are made up of boys and girls aged six years and upwards, raised funds for the Beckton hospice by competing in its first 5km colour run at Beckton Park North.

The young East Ham fundraisers recently presented a giant cheque, along with some boxed gifts, to the hospice’s community and events coordinator, Rachel Green.

Richard House Hospice offers clinical care, short breaks and other residential services to children and young adults.

Its services are free of charge to the families it supports and the charity needs to raise approximately £2m in voluntary donations each year.

The 7th Newham scouts group say they are one of the biggest scout groups in the district. Its young members are given opportunities to develop confidence, make friends and interact positively with others.
