A deafblind woman from East Ham has received a national award for her volunteering work in supporting others affected in the same way.
Leila Touak was presented a national runner-up certificate at the Sense deafblind charity awards by Linda Barker, designer and TV personality.
The annual Sense Awards celebrate the exceptional achievements of deafblind people and those who campaign, volunteer and support them.
Leila, 29, is deafblind and has some learning disabilities. She was named runner up “Deafblind Person of the Year” for her volunteering work with Sense and the support she gives other deafblind people and their families.
Since 2009 she has regularly helped out at Sense Family Days, which bring together around 100 family members and deafblind people to share experiences and have a break.
