She’s more than double the age of her two nearest rivals combined - but Dame Vera Lynn is on course to have the biggest selling album released by a female artist this year.

The singer, who grew up in East Ham, looks set to add more records to her name at the age of 100, beating the likes of Zara Larsson and Dua Lipa - although she faces competition from the yet-to-be-released efforts by Taylor Swift, Kelly Clarkson and Pink.

Dame Vera’s latest album, 100, was released earlier this year to mark her centenary and rose to number three in the charts, making her the oldest living artist to score a top 10 album on the Official Album Charts.

And according to the Official Charts Company, the Forces’ Sweetheart is outperforming many of today’s biggest stars.

Her album is the 28th best seller of the year overall in the chart, which combines physical and download sales with streams.
