An East Ham man wanted in connection with a major Home Office immigration investigation into suspected people smuggling gangs has been arrested and brought back to the UK.
John Anes Soundaranayagam Uvais, 41, of Mitcham Road, was arrested by police in Zurich, Switzerland, along with Jayakody Surtharshan, aged 37, of Bradley Road, Luton.
The pair appeared before Maidstone Magistrates Court charged with conspiring to facilitate illegal immigration earlier this month. They were remanded in custody and will next appear at Maidstone Crown Court on July 12.
