Unemployed people have taken on the challenge of organising an employment and enterprise fair to counter the negative stereotype of those on benefits.

All aspects of the fair, which is hosted by Community Links, have been dealt with by 30 volunteers, from marketing and administration to meeting and greeting on the day.

The volunteers come from two local organisations, Volunteers for Change and Stand Up and Be Counted.

Speakers will include the shadow minister for employment, Stephen Timms MP, and around 30 employers will be exhibiting their companies and organisations.

More than 1000 people are expected to attend the day at East Ham Town Hall, which will also feature sessions on CV writing and interview techniques.

Attendees can also take part in taster sessions run by Links 2 Enterprise.

The free event is open to all and will take place on Friday, April 25 between 11am and 5pm.
