Teenagers Helen Kakkassery, 15, Michael Meshe, 17, Monique Graver, 19, Mohammed Khan, 19, and Daniel Jemmott, 16, made their presentation to Lord Young of Graffham, enterprise adviser to the Prime Minister, at Number 10, Downing Street.

The recommendations on encouraging and incorporating enterprise into the secondary school curriculum were developed by a group of 50 young east Londoners who attended the Community Links charity’s conference, This Generation, last month.

With the aim to “harness creativity and entrepreneurship”, the young presenters recommended that enterprise be introduced into the school curriculum from as early as year seven and should be delivered in a practical way, teaching pupils skills for working life.

Community Links chief executive Geraldine Blake, who accompanied students to Downing Street with enterprise programme manager Kevin Jones, said: “The young people had a lot to say and Lord Young listened to attentively to their ideas.

“The message is clear: young people want to see practical enterprise in education from an early age.”

Lord Young will be presenting his review of enterprise and education to Prime Minister David Cameron later this month.
