Former West Ham and England international will be talking to an audience at Thurrock Hotel later this month

West Ham legend Alvin Martin will be discussing the glory years and more at the Thurrock Hotel on June 26 as he hosts an audience with fans alongside former team-mates Mark Ward and George Parris.

The 56-year-old Martin, who was at Upton Park for 23 years and progressed through the youth ranks to become first team captain, will look back at the glory days when the Hammers won the FA Cup in 1980 and finished third in the 1985/86 Division One campaign – the highest placed league finish in the clubs history.

“I have done quite a few events with old players and we always have great nights,” said Martin.

“The thing is, when you get West Ham people together it is always great because we have got that connection. They don’t just connect with our stories, but it also takes them back to where they were and what they felt at the time.

“The biggest thing for me is the connection we all have as West Ham people.”

Martin’s lengthy spell at Upton Park means he met plenty of characters along the way and two of them, Ward and Parris, will also be sharing their stories.

He added: “I was four weeks away from when Bobby Moore left in 1974, I was in the youth team just after he left the club.

“It starts with me being in the youth team when the lads won the 1975 FA Cup and goes full circle through the John Lyall years to Lou Macari and then to Billy Bonds before finishing with Harry Redknapp.”

Although Martin has plenty of campaigns to look over and discuss, wider issues such as gambling and more are addressed with Parris and Ward.

He added: “George and Wardy were in the 1986 team that had great characters like Frank McAvennie.

“Other things we get into are some of the problems George and Wardy have encountered since retiring from football because they have had to come through tough times.”

The audience with Martin and his two guests starts at 7pm and finishes at 10.30pm at the Thurrock Hotel, Ship Lane.

Tickets are priced at £25 and to buy them you have to send an email to contact@sporttalkevents.com or text 3CT to 07717 798378.
