Young people with disabilities went on a sporting trip to build their confidence and help develop friendships with other youngsters who have similar conditions.

Twenty young people aged eight to 25 from Newham Ability Camp, a sports club for young people with a variety of disabilities, attended the Time To Shine annual four-day trip from Aril 14 to 17.

Together with as many as 200 youngsters they played sports ranging from wheelchair basketball and rugby to swimming, judo and archery at Stoke Mandaville hospital – the birthplace of the Paralympic Games.

Volunteer coach Rebecca King said: “This was my first experience of Time To Shine and I will be back every year. It is the most inspiring and rewarding experience I have had. The young people clearly enjoy themselves from start to finish.”

Newham Ability Camp aims to open doors and help remove barriers for its 25 club members.
