A series of dawn raids took place across Newham yesterday as part of day of action by the Metropolitan Police.

Eighteen police officers and three sergeants were involved in the Operation Big Wing crack-down on domestic abuse, burglary, theft and other related offences.

Five addresses were visited by police, including an early-morning raid at a property in Park Avenue where officers were accompanied by the Recorder.

An enforcer was used to gain entry to the terraced house where three men and a woman were arrested on suspicion of possession of Class B drugs and fraud after cannabis, hydraponics, a large volume of cash and a fake V5 car logbook were found.

Chief Inspector Guy Wade said the houses were targeted because the occupants were believed to be generating crime.

Almost 200 officers and 30 PCSOs were on duty in Newham throughout the day with action including weapon swoops in parks and a high visible police presence in High Street North.

A total of 638 arrests were made across London, of which 210 were domestic abuse related.
