Paralympic champion David Weir will be returning to the Olympic Stadium this month for the first time since claiming four gold medals in 2012.

He is one of a number of top athletes competing as part of the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games, which takes place between Friday 24 and Sunday 26 July.

Friday night will feature an IAAF Diamond League meeting, while more than 100 Paralympic athletes will compete in the IPC Athletics Grand Prix final on Sunday.

Wheelchair racer Weir said: “After winning four gold medals in the Stadium in 2012 being back there racing will be like a homecoming for me and all the ParalympicsGB and international athletes.

“I hope the home crowd can help me get over the finish line in first place again.”

Records are set to be broken as athletes prepare for the World Championships in October and the Rio Paralympic Games next year.

A number of free events will be taking place across Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park that day to mark National Paralympic Day, including the Mayor of London’s Liberty Festival.

Weir added: It is going to be a great atmosphere and tough competition.

“I’m racing athletes I beat in London 2012 and the target is on my back.”

Fans who want to catch Sunday’s athletics action can snap up two for one tickets at the Mayor’s Newham Show, which takes place at Central Park this weekend.

Tickets start at £10 and can only be paid for by card.
