An eight-year-old has found his forte after receiving a scholarship from the Mayor’s Music Fund for Young Londoners.

Nathan Oriakhi, the 2016 scholar for Newham, was given the four-year grant along with 41 others at City Hall last month.

The will.i.am fan was nominated by his teachers at Newham Music and St Luke’s Primary School for being an “extremely dedicated and talented young musician”.

Nathan, who lives in Custom House, has been making music since he was two and plays the drums, guitar, ukulele and piano.

When asked how he felt about his scholarship, he said: “I’ll make new friends and meet new people; people who play different instruments, styles of music and legends.

“It makes me happy and joyful.”

Nathan is a member of Ukenited, part of the Newham Music Collective.
