Crossrail workers gave the inside of a community centre a makeover last week.
A team helping to drill the C315 Connaught Tunnel spent three days painting and decorating the Asta Community Hub on Camel Road, Silvertown.
The workers, employed by building contractor Vinci Taylor Woodrow to work on the £14.8bn high-speed rail project across London, visited the Hub as part of the Crossail Community Investment Initiative to give back to the areas surrounding construction.
The group are also set to fund a community street party in the summer.
Steve Devey, health and safety advisor, said: “The painting experience was very rewarding.
“Tea and cake supplied by the Hub team really helped spur us on, too.”
The Hub, run by Newham charity Community Links, provides play and learning for preschoolers, life skills sessions for adults with learning disabilities, homework, drama, and music clubs, and photography sessions.
Tracey Smith, Hub manager, said: “The place looks and feels much cleaner and fresher thanks to the excellent work done by the team.
“We’re very happy with the end results.”
