Crossrail has picked a contractor to build its Custom House station.
Bosses of the £15bn rail project intend to hand responsibility for the station’s construction to Laing O’Rourke.
When built, it will be the only above ground station within the network’s central section. It will be located at the junction of Victoria Dock Road and Freemasons Road.
It will include a new ticket hall, interchange with the Docklands Light Railway (DLR), and step-free access between the street and Crossrail platforms.
Martin Buck, from Crossrail, said: “The new Crossrail station at Custom House will not only assist with the continued regeneration of the Royal Docks but also improve links between central London and the ExCeL exhibition centre.”
Crossrail passengers have been promised a four minute journey to Canary Wharf, while trips to Heathrow Airport will take just 45 minutes.
The contract is subject to a ten-day standstill period.
