A woman was taken to hospital by paramedics after being rescued from a house fire in Plaistow on Saturday eveniing.

Six fire engines and 35 firefighters from East Ham, Shadwell, Poplar and Stratford fire stations were called to the scene at about 5.45pm and the fire was brought under control just after 8.30pm.

The woman was rescued from a loft conversion second-floor window and taken to safety via an internal staircase.

Fire damaged the whole of the basement and half of the ground floor of the end-of-terraced house. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
