A motorist from Upton Park who gave police false details to try and swerve five speeding tickets has been fined and disqualified from driving.
Robin Haque, of Walton Road, carried out his scam after he was first caught doing 64mph in a 50mph zone on the A127 near Rayleigh on January 1 this year.
When he was issued with a penalty notice and a warning letter he gave Essex Police the false details of a resident at an address in East Ham.
His ruse was uncovered and officers found out he had given the same false details on four other occasions where he had been caught speeding.
On Monday at Colchester Magistrates’ Court he was convicted and disqualified for six months, given 30 points on his driving licence, and ordered to pay a total of £1,080.
PC Dan Cordwell, investigating officers, said: “I hope this serves as a message to people living, working in or travelling to and from Essex.
“If you give false details and break the law in our county, we will find you and we will prosecute you.

“There is absolutely no excuse for this behaviour, and I hope Haque’s ban, points and fines serves as a warning to those thinking about nominating false details.”
