Newham’s top policeman has warned the Muslim community of fraudulent travel agents preying on worshippers.

He advises families planning on making a Hajj pilgrimage this year to be vigilant and to use a reputable travel agent.

Borough Commander, Supt Rob Jones, said: “It is a sad fact that there are fraudulent Hajj travel operators who take peoples money then disappear”.

Precautions to take are making sure your travel agent is ATOL (Air Travel Organisers Licensing) protected, accredited by the Saudi Embassy, and clearly state what you are paying for and gives you a written agreement.

He urges victims of Hajj fraud to contact Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040. or if you suspect a fraudulent travel operator, call Consumer Direct on 0845 4040 506.
