A prolific shoplifter has been jailed and banned from entering Westfield Stratford City.

Ali Hayder, 31, from Stratford, pleaded guilty to two counts of theft at Thames magistrates Court on Monday.

He was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison, ordered to pay an £80 victim surcharge and was also handed a two year Criminal Behaviour Order for persistent shoplifting within the borough.

The CBO was issued on Thursday last week and prevents Hayder from entering Westfield Stratford City for the next two years.

PC Den Kemp of Newham Borough said: “The criminal behaviour order is being used to prevent offenders from committing crimes and to encourage the kind of behaviour that ensures our borough remains safe.”

Under the conditions of the CBO, the offender is also required to attend three sessions at Newham Drugs and Alcohol Services as directed.

Breaching the terms of a Criminal Behaviour Order is a criminal offence and can lead to a fine or imprisonment.

The CBO, which replaces the Anti Social Behaviour Order, can impose conditions which do not directly relate to the offence for which they were charged.

This allows Police, the Crown Prosecution Service and the local authority to take the whole of the person’s behaviour and offending history into consideration when creating the prohibitions.
