Police vow to continue investigations

Around half of those arrested in Newham in connection with this summer’s riots and disorder have since been charged.

A total of 125 people have now been picked up in the borough by the Metropolitan Police as part of Operation Withern since the disorder took place. Sixty-six have been charged.

In addition, 102 of those arrested in Newham had previous convictions.

The average age of those arrested currently stands at 21. The youngest person held was 11, and the oldest person to be arrested was 42.

The MPS released several more images on Monday this week of those jailed in connection with the riots.

Across London a total of 1,809 cases have been brought before courts. Of those, 618 people have been sentenced with 255 put behind bars.

Commander Steve Rodhouse, who is leading the investigation, said: “This is an important milestone for the investigation but our work is far from over.

“We continue to arrest and charge people every day, which is testament to the hard work of the officers involved in this investigation.

“It is also important that the public see we are not only arresting people but that these arrests are ending up with people being convicted for their crimes.

He added: “My message to those who were involved in the disorder and criminality is that you will not get away with it. We have a huge team of dedicated officers working on this investigation and we will find you.

“We are determined to continue bringing those who committed these outrageous acts of criminality to justice. There will be more arrests and convictions.”
