Abdul Sujac, of Sunrise Close, Stratford, was sentenced to six years and three months in prison having previously pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.

Southwark Crown Court heard how police were called to a junction in Deptford, south London, at around 10.15pm on November 30 last year to reports of a crash between a vehicle and a pedestrian.

They, along with London Ambulance Service medics, provided first aid to the victim, 19-year-old Laura Ann Keyes but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Laura, who was originally from Tideswell in Derbyshire, had been enjoying a night out with friends at the time.

A post mortem gave the cause of death as multiple injuries.

Sujac, who was driving a black BMW, stopped at the scene and was arrested. He was released on bail before being charged in June this year.

The court was told how the 22-year-old was a habitual dangerous driver who would record clips of his exploits, with more than 4,000 found on his phone.

One video, posted two days after a conviction for careless driving where he struck a pedestrian near Westfield Stratford City, he posted a caption stating ‘nine points ain’t gonna stop me driving’ in relation to the penalty points he had accrued.

Speaking after the sentencing, Det Sgt Richard Budd said: “The evening that Laura died she had been enjoying a night out with her friends and enjoying her life before it was tragically cut short in the most cruel and sudden of circumstances.

“Sujac’s senseless and irresponsible actions have robbed Laura’s family of a person who by all accounts was a well-loved and well-liked young woman who had the rest of her life to look forward to.

“Sujac will now have a substantial custodial sentence to reflect on his actions.

“I hope this will act as a reminder to other motorists to drive safely and responsibly so as to spare anyone else the devastation that Laura’s family have been caused.”
