Zeynel Uclay, of Morning Lane, Hackney, was found guilty of two counts of outraging public decency at Thames Crown Court.

The jury heard how the 46-year-old followed his first victim up the escalator as she made her way to Westfield Stratford City, having got off the Central line shortly before 7.30pm on June 13 last year.

The woman felt something touching her thigh and turned to see Uclay standing behind her.

When she confronted him, he walked past and she noticed he was holding a phone that had the video function enabled.

Uclay was arrested following a second incident a month later that took place in similar circumstances.

On August 11, 2014, a woman walking to Westfield Stratford City noticed a man watching two teenage girls.

She saw him gesture for them to walk ahead of him on the escalator before he bent down to position his phone under one of the girls’ skirts.

The woman alerted British Transport Police officers and Uclay was arrested.

At the sentencing on Wednesday, July 8, Uclay was also told to pay £620 costs, an £80 victim surcharge and given a criminal behaviour order forbidding him to carry any device that could capture images or video footage in public for two years.

Det Con Gareth Jones said: “Unwanted sexual behaviour will not be tolerated anywhere on the rail network.

“We take every report seriously, and will pursue offenders to ensure they are brought before the courts.

“I am pleased to see that Uclay has been brought to account for his actions.”

Victims of unwanted sexual behaviour on public transport can report it to British Transport Police by texting 61016 or calling 0800 405040.
