The mother of a young man “destroyed” by his murder four years ago urges people to come forward and bring his killer to justice. The Metropolitan Police has offered a £20,000 reward to anyone with information leading to their identification, arrest, and prosecution.

Linda Higgins lost her son David Cauchi-Lechmere, 20, from Bow, after he was stabbed to death following a disturbance near a house party in Henry Addlington Close, Beckton on Thursday July 11.

The former Bow Boys School pupil was taken to the Royal London Hospital where he died just after 4am of haemorrhaging and a stab wound to the chest.

Detectives launched a murder investigation which led to seven people being found guilty of violent disorder at the Old Bailey in 2011.

But David’s murderer is still at large and a £20,000 reward is offered to anyone with information leading to their identification, arrest, and prosecution.

Linda said: “My family and I have lost out on all happiness David would have brought into our lives.

“His murderers celebrate Christmas, birthdays, mother’s and father’s day, but we cannot as there’s always a part of us missing.

“Physically and mentally we are destroyed. Devastation is only a small word that can explain what this has done to me and my family.

“Someone amongst those who were there that night knows who did this to my son - they know what happened. There must have been talk going around, people bragging about what happened.”

David’s sister, Sandra Cauchi, said he was “an amazing young man who loved his family more than anything” and her son still cries for his uncle.

She added: “David was a big part of our lives and each and every day we miss him more and more.

“It is so hard to have to go through this daily pain of missing him and knowing that it was through someone else’s evil actions that my brother is no longer here for us to love and be with.”

David visited Bow and Beckton the afternoon before his murder and police officers have been handing out appeal posters in the areas today (Weds July 10) in the hope of finally putting the case to rest.
