A 21-year-old accused of throwing acid in a shop assistant’s face was ordered to stand trial in court today.

Mary Konye, from Throckmorton Road, Custom House, appeared at a short preliminary hearing at Snaresbrook Crown Court accused of attacking Naomi Oni with sulphuric acid in Lodge Avenue, Dagenham on December 30.

Oni, also 21, spent a month in hospital suffering severe burns to her face after the attack on her way home from work at Victoria’s Secret in Westfield Stratford City.

Konye, who is being held in custody, will enter a plea at a hearing on July 12.

Judge David Radford fixed a date for September 9 for a trial expected to last three weeks.
