The 33-year-old man was leaving the Docklands Light Railway station on Stratford High Street with his wife at around 12.15am on January 24.

The couple from Stratford were approached by two men who demanded he hand over the items.

When the man refused, one of the robbers grabbed him, searched his pockets - taking a wallet and a mobile phone - and punched him so he hit the ground while the other suspect acted as a look-out.

The suspect then told the man’s wife to hand over her mobile phone but she said she didn’t have one. She was also searched before the two men ran off.

The victim was left with severe bruising and swelling to his face.

Yesterday, British Transport Police released CCTV images taken at the scene and they are appealing to members of the public to come forward to identify the two men.

Det Sgnt Egan said: “We’ve carried out a number of enquiries to try and establish the identity of these two men, including speaking to witnesses and circulating images on police intelligence systems, but to no avail so far.”
