A woman was assaulted at Canning Town station in a “violent attack” during the morning rush hour.
The 26-year-old was travelling on a Docklands Light Railway train heading towards Stratford International shortly before 8.30am on Thursday, April 23.
During the journey, she became engaged in a verbal confrontation with a male passenger, who then assaulted her as she went to leave the train at Canning Town.
She sustained bruising to her face, a cut lip and damage to her front teeth, while her glasses were also broken.
Det Con Helen Parsfield, of the British Transport Police, said: “This was a violent attack that was understandably incredibly distressing for the woman.
“Everyone has the right to travel on London’s transport network without the fear of violence.
“We are doing all we can to catch the person responsible.”
Officers have now released an image of a man they believe can help with their investigation.
If you recognise him, or were on the train at the time, call British Transport Police on 0800 405040 or text 61016, quoting reference T/B11 of 24/04/2015.
Information can also be passed on by calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
