An eye specialist from East Ham has denied killing an eight-year-old patient by gross negligence.
Locum optometrist Honey Rose, 34, of Milton Avenue, appeared before the Old Bailey this morning charged with the manslaughter of Vincent Barker.
Keen footballer Vincent, a pupil at Dale Hall Primary School in Ipswich, died at his home in the town in July 2012 after it is understood he was taken ill at school.
A key part of an optometrist’s duties is to detect signs of disease or injury through eye examinations and to be aware of wider health conditions.
During the hearing, Rose spoke only to plead not guilty to the charge before Mr Justice Singh.
She was released on bail ahead of a trial at Ipswich Crown Court on July 4.
