A sixth man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering Ahmed Deen-Jah at an off-licence.

The 19-year-old was arrested yesterday and has since been bailed until late May, pending further enquiries.

The arrest comes as officers continue to appeal for information about a car they believe was involved in 21-year-old Ahmed’s death in Freemasons Road, Custom House, on Sunday, April 2.

A black Mercedes CLK 220 with the registration KJ06 CCZ was seen on the A406, near the A12 junction, at around 2.25pm - an hour before Ahmed was stabbed.

The car was found burnt out in Warren Road, Leytonstone, at around 11.30pm that evening.

Det Chief Insp Gary Holmes, who leads the investigation, said: “This was a particularly brutal attack on a young man.

“We are still trying to establish the circumstances behind this incident, and we are continuing to appeal to anybody who was in the Freemasons area at around the time of the attack, or who lives nearby and may have seen or heard something, to come forward and speak to officers or Crimestoppers as soon as possible.”

Three men, one aged 20 and two aged 21, were arrested on suspicion of murder on the day of Ahmed’s death and have now been released with no further action.

Two other 19-year-olds have also been arrested on suspicion of murder – one on April 4 and one on April 10 - and have been bailed pending further enquiries.

Any witnesses or anyone with information should contact the incident room number 020 8345 1570, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
