Police today confirmed the young man stabbed to death at Stratford Centre on Tuesday was Beniamin Pieknyi.

The 21-year-old from Milton Keynes was found suffering from stab wounds when police were called to reports of a disturbance at 9.30pm.

Officers attended along with London Ambulance Service.

Despite the best efforts of emergency services, Beniamin, who is believed to be originally from Romania, was pronounced dead at 10.30pm.

A post-mortem exam gave the cause of death as a stab wound.

Whilst formal identification awaits, his next of kin have been informed.

With police enquiries ongoing and no arrests made, detectives are appealing for witnesses to come forward with information on the attack.

Det Chief Insp Will Reynolds of the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command said officers believe Beniamin and a friend were involved in “an altercation with a large group of young males” before he was stabbed.

“I would like to make a direct appeal to all those in that large group to come forward and speak to police,” he said.

“It could be that you witnessed the incident and we need to eliminate you from the investigation as soon as possible.

“The shopping centre was busy at the time of the incident and a number of witnesses have already come forward to help police with investigations. We are grateful for this assistance and for those who provided emergency first aid to the victim.

The Met urges anyone with information to call 0208 721 4005 quoting CAD 7391/20 March or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
