Ten people in Newham were arrested on Wednesday in connection with last summer’s riots and disorder.

Officers raided 12 homes in the borough as part of Operation Withern.

Seven of the suspects were under the age of 17.

It was the busiest day so far for Operation Withern and came after the Metropolitan Police released a further 200 images of people suspected of taking part in the violence in August.

Four months after the disorder, the Met Police has now made 3,423 arrests for a variety of riot-related offences, with 2,179 of them facing court appearances.

Det Con Neil Godwin, from Newham’s Operation Withern team, said it was a fantastic result.

He added: “I would like to thank the community in Newham for their help in providing the information needed to locate and arrest the people who took part in the disorder back in August.”
