Trading Standards seized over 11,000 illegal cigarettes from seven shops in one day.

The mountain of illegal cigarettes were confiscated during the super swoop in Beckton, Plaistow, and Manor Park.

The shops cannot be named for legal reasons but a total of 11,680 cigarettes were taken.

Cllr Unmesh Desai, Newham Council’s Executive Member for Crime and Anti-Social Behaviour, said: “The illegal cigarettes are a risk to people’s health as in most cases it has not been properly produced. Anyone who is suspicious should contact our officers immediately.”
