A wounded father and son, stabbed after chasing two suspected car thieves, are appealing for help to bring their attacker to justice.
Dad-of-five Imran Malik, of Fourth Avenue, says he fears for his family’s safety after he was slashed in the face and neck and his son was stabbed in the side in Church Road, Manor Park.
The incident took place at about 12.30am on February 5 when the 41-year-old father claims to have caught two men attempting to break into his car – parked on the road outside his house.
He chased the men up the road, along with his two 15-year-old sons, Mustafa and Mujtaba.
Mr Malik described the attack as “horrific”, adding: “I ran after them, after seeing the two men trying to break into my car. One of them broke the window and this is when we started chasing them.
“I went inside to get my shoes and before I knew it my two sons had started going after them up the road and I quickly followed them.”
Although able to catch up with one of the men, Mr Malik was slashed across the face by the second man who was wielding a knife. The assailant then stabbed his son.
Recalling the attack, he said: “I caught one of the guys near the Post Office but the other guy then slashed my face and head and stabbed Mustafa just under his left armpit, not far from his heart.”
Imran and Mustafa were taken to hospital where they received treatment for their injuries.
Mr Malik said: “Myself and Mustafa were in hospital for a couple of days. He has been very brave and is a strong boy. It could have been a lot worse.
“We want justice and we want to be able to feel safe when leaving our home.
“If anyone saw anything we really urge them to come forward with any information they may have.”
