A man has been jailed after officers found him with a set of pliers and a handsaw in Stratford.
Alexsej Boiko, 35, of no fixed abode was charged with going equipped to steal after plain-clothed officers said they saw him paying close attention to a set of bikes outside Stratford Station on July 23.
Officers arrested the Russian national after they followed him and carried out a search in Leytonstone High Road, which led to the discovery of the tools.
Boiko said he was carrying the tools because he wanted to find a job.
He was sentenced to eight weeks in jail after he was found guilty of the crime at Stratford Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
He was also sentenced to seven days and 30 days respectively for not paying a £375 fine and court costs.
Boiko will serve four weeks behind bars.
