A 20-year-old man was stabbed to death during broad daylight in a busy East Ham park in front of horrified onlookers.

Police were called to Plashet Park - located metres away from a secondary school - at 4.07pm yesterday where they found the man with a stab wound to his chest.

Despite attempts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 16-year-old boy has subsequently been charged with the man’s murder.

The victim has not been identified and enquiries are underway to trace his next of kin.

A crime scene has been established along a stretch of the park.

At this early stage, it is believed that the victim was with friends sitting on a bench when a group of males approached them and a fight ensued, during which the victim was stabbed.

DCI Jamie Piscopo, who leads the investigation, said: “This was a violent attack on a young man who sadly died from the injuries inflicted.

“This all happened in the middle of the afternoon in a park busy with people, and I would ask anyone who saw the incident to come forward and speak to us.”

Police have asked anyone with information to contact the Homicide and Major Crime Command on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
