Beckton acid attack: Canning Town suspect John Tomlin set to face trial

A Canning Town man will stand trial after being accused of throwing acid at an aspiring model and her cousin in Beckton.

John Tomlin, 25, of Colman Road, today appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court via video-link from Pentonville Prison, charged with two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent. He spoke only to confirm his name.

Resham Khan and Jameel Muhktar were left with life-changing injuries after acid was thrown through their car window while waiting at a set of traffic lights in Tollgate Road at 9.13am on Wednesday, June 21.

Business management student Resham was visiting family to celebrate her 21st birthday at the time of the attack, during which she and Jameel suffered suffered horrific face and neck injuries.

In the days afterwards, Resham said: “I’m devastated. I keep wondering if my life will ever be the same.”

Mr Muhktar said he feels “emotionally wrecked” and “in continuous pain”.

A provisional date for Mr Tomlin’s trial has been set for November 27. He will next appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on September 19.
