A counter-terrorism event was held at The ExCel centre last week.

More than 600 people attended the event, which took place on Friday, and was organised by Newham officers to raise awareness on protective security among businesses.

The event was held as part of Project Griffin, which builds on police engagement with communities and businesses across London in a variety of ways to counter the threat from terrorism and improve the protection offered to local businesses from a terrorist attack.

PC Lewis John, from Newham’s Custom House Safer Neighbourhoods team, said: “ExCeL have provided a unique opportunity for services to meet, and high level professionals to come together with a common purpose of fighting terrorism across the capital.

“It was hard pulling people together as all the exhibiting units were on call and fully operational.”

Exhibition stands were situated around the venue to showcase several areas of police and external agency work.

Thousands of staff from businesses across London have been briefed under Project Griffin, explaining the ongoing threat from terrorism and what they can do to protect themselves, their business and London.

Anyone who has any information about unusual activity or behaviour should contact the confidential Anti-Terrorist Hotline on 0800 789 321.

In the event of an emergency always dial 999.
