Tony joins the debate on the fans’ reaction
Isaw the banner and I heard about the chanting from the West Ham fans and though I can understand their frustrations, as a football person I don’t like to see any manager suffer that sort of abuse.
Of course the fans have every right to say what they think. The away supporters pay a lot of money for tickets, for petrol and the rest of it, so they are entitled to say what they want.
If the manager has lost the support of the away fans then that would be a serious matter for him, but I think the main problem is that they are frustated with the perceived style of play.
At times in Sam’s three season reign, we have played some good football, but that has not often been the case and the West Ham fans demand a certain style of football and that is not coming.
I’m not sure whether the chanting is very helpful to the team or the manager, but you have to take it on the chin and just try and get through it.
I think the board will sit down with Sam at the end of the season and discuss the way they want to move forward.
The best way to stop the chanting of course is to win matches and there is no better win for a West Ham fan than victory over Tottenham – hopefully the third this season.
Spurs at home is my favourite match and though it will be difficult, there is nothing in that Tottenham team that scares me too much.
I think Saturday’s game is a key match not just for Sam Allardyce, but also for the future prospects for the club and for that reason I am going to go for a scrappy 1-0 win.
I was at the PFA awards dinner on Sunday and I have to say that Luis Suarez was a deserved winner on the night.
I think he has been fantastic this season. Just think back 12 months when he was perceived as a villain after the Ivanovic biting incident. Many thought he would leave, but I think a lot of the credit for turning him round and getting him to act more responsibly goes to his wife and family and also to Liverpool.
To score 30 goals after missing the first five games is just incredible and he also took the time to come along and deliver a good speech on the night.
Eden Hazard deservedly won the Young Player of the Year, but there were also a lot of English players nominated like Daniel Sturridge and Adam Lallana and that has to be good for the English game in the future.
