I recently had the opportunity and privilege of visiting and experiencing the Brick Lane Music Hall, located in Silvertown squeezed in between Tate and Lyle and London City Airport. A stunning authentic music hall has been recreated in the former St Marks Church.

Outside you have a few clues of what you might find inside, but as soon as you walk through the entrance door and you are greeted so warmly by front of house staff in full costume of the era, you are transported back to the days when music halls were the most popular forms of theatrical entertainment throughout the country.

Led by the vision and dedication of Brick Lanes founder Vincent Hayes MBE, a truly authentic music hall in every detail has been recreated in the former church. A mix of beautifully painted wall murals, real black and white photographs of the time, signs of every size and shape reproducing the jokes and every form of memorabilia you can imagine creates the atmosphere and ambience of a live and bustling music hall.

Each show offer a mix of entertainment and good food – all home cooked fresh on the day. The entertainment is delivered by a multitalented and highly skilled team of performers under Vincent’s expert leadership. Each show taking you back to the songs and jokes of the music hall and non-stop opportunities for the audience to participate.

In addition to the ever changing shows packages at Brick Lane is them taking the music hall out to the community performing free in care homes and hospitals and senior citizens homes funded from the proceeds of the raffles run at each show.

The whole experience is an inspiration. Brick Lane is a gem in Newham’s crown. Maintaining a wonderful tradition that everyone should be proud of and go and see. Visit bricklanemusichall.co.uk or 0207 511 6655. More from Kevin
