GOLDEN girl Christine Ohuruogu raised the Olympic flag outside City Hall on Friday to formally mark London hosting the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Beijing gold medallist from Stratford was joined by Paralympic stars Helene Raynsford and Chris Holmes for the ceremony. The event was also attended by Olympians from the 1948 London Games and 2012 hopefuls.

London Mayor Boris Johnson, Olympics boss Lord Coe and Olympics Minister Tessa Jowell spoke. The event was also attended by children, borough and community leaders.

Christine said: "As a Londoner it is a great honour to be involved in such an exciting occasion for our city. The Games are such a unique event, which only a small number of people have the chance to experience. When they come to London we will all have that chance.
