A child was temporarily excluded for bringing a knife into school.

The year six pupil at Sandringham School, in Forest Gate, was suspended following the incident, which took place just before Easter.

A council spokeswoman, speaking on behalf of the school, said teachers acted quickly to remove the weapon.

“Sandringham School takes safety extremely seriously,” she said. “The school has a zero tolerance approach to any behaviour that may put others at risk and works with Newham Council and the police to ensure pupils, staff and parents remain safe.

“The school was praised in its most recent Ofsted inspection which stated that pupils feel extremely safe in school.”

The spokeswoman added that the appropriate authorities were informed of the incident and all parents were kept up-to-date about what had happened and the steps that the school had taken.
