A charity with funds worth £15 million has been formed to help improve the lives of disadvantaged communities.
The East End Community Foundation (EECF), which is the result of a merger between the Isle of Dogs Community Foundation (IDCF) and St Katharine & Shadwell Trust (SKST), will be launched officially at the world’s oldest surviving music hall on May 21.
Its chairman, Mark Gibson, is set to tell a business audience at Wilton’s in Shadwell: “By combining forces, EECF becomes the largest endowed community foundation in London with financial resources of around £15 million.”
The charity will cover Tower Hamlets, Newham, Hackney and The City and offer grants of up to £10,000 to grass roots organisations and deliver projects aimed at supporting educational achievement and employability, and reducing social isolation.
Applications for funding are currently open to community and voluntary groups in Tower Hamlets. The closing date for the first round of applications is June 3. Visit www.eastendcf.org for more information.
