A charity has been awarded a £40,000 grant over two years to help it continue its adult education programme.

Trinity Community Centre has received the cash from the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales. It will use the funds to support its adult education programme which will help local residents improve their language skills, gain confidence and increase opportunities for employment and further education.

Trinity Community Centre in Bothwell Close, Canning Town provides recreation, education and support to those living in Newham and the surrounding area. It provides services and support to refugees and migrants, Asian women and girls and those affected by mental illness and domestic abuse.

Isky Osman, CEO at Trinity Community Centre, said, “Over 70 per cent of the population in Newham is BME and many are illiterate in English. At Trinity, we support beneficiaries to learn basic literacy skills and gain qualifications which can help them to increase their confidence and open up more opportunities for educational and vocational advancement.”

The Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales supports charities that make a significant difference to the lives of disadvantaged people by helping them to play a fuller role in the community.
