A charity based in Canning Town is hosting a reception in the House of Lords this week to mark World Homeless Day.

Caritas Anchor House is aiming to draw attention to the needs of the many people living on the streets as part of the occasion on Thursday.

The Barking Road homeless charity, which provides support to more than 230 people each year, is expecting to welcome 250 people during the event.

Keith Fernett, Chief Executive of Caritas Anchor House, said: “Homelessness and those experiencing it are so often overlooked by society, but as the figures continues to rise in London and globally, this issue cannot be ignored anymore.

“In holding our World Homeless Day reception, we hope to raise awareness of this issue and encourage people to do more. It is only through working together as a community that we can hope to put an end to homelessness, and I am heartened to see that so many people from different community groups will be making the reception.”

The lunchtime event is set to see a number of key speakers discuss the issues surrounding homelessness.
