A charity café in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park run by the Camden Society has been lauded for its inclusivity and work in the community.
The London Legacy Development Corporation’s (LLDC) East Works awards named the Unity Kitchen Café, set up by the Camden disability charity, as Best Employer, and also gave the cafe a gong for “excellence in diversion and inclusion”.
Meanwhile, two of the café’s apprentices, Michaela Angell and Misa Jovanovic, were finalists for for the Individual Achievement of the Year prize.
The Camden Society’s chief executive, Denise Largin said: “We are successfully creating job opportunities for people with a learning disability and for people from the boroughs around the park.
“It’s only possible to level the playing field for both of these groups with commitment, determination and persistence - something our hard-working staff team and apprentices have in abundance.”
The Unity Kitchen Café works to provide opportunites local people, as a result, 60 per cent of its workforce is from the Olympic Park’s neighbouring boroughs.
