Rail bosses on the Fenchurch Street network are ending 2012 running Britain’s most-punctual train service.

They managed to keep 97 per cent of their C2C trains on the Tilbury-Southend-Shoreburyness line running on time, according to latest figures by Network Rail issued last night (Thurs).

The line was deemed “most reliable railway” in the country, compared to a national average of 91.5 per cent recorded in the rail industry’s official Public Performance Measure table.

C2c chalked up best punctuality on each of the 12 monthly surveys throughout the year, at 26 stations it serves across east London and South Essex.

The company is also ending the year with ‘shopper special’ trains every hour diverted through Stratford instead of West Ham the day after Boxing Day until December 30, giving a direct link to Westfield shopping centre without having to change. Return trains are also being laid on to get shoppers back home in the afternoon.
