Firefighters rescued four builders who became trapped after the roof of an East Ham house collapsed.

Emergency services was called to Bridge Road at about 3.30pm yesterday following reports of a roof that had collapsed.

Altogether, six builders managed to escape before the arrival of emergency services but four builders were unable to reach their ladder in time, and had to be rescued from the upper floors of the house, according to London Fire Service.

One man, in his twenties, was taken to hospital as a priority.

A London Fire Service spokesman said firefighters carried out an assessment of the house, which is undergoing refurbishment, before leaving the scene at 5.20pm.
