Boris Johnson says he will fuel the rapid evolution of small and medium-sized enterprises – with £822,140 in funding.

The funds, which will see regeneration across the south of the borough , is part of the £20million London Regeneration Fund.

The Mayor of London will fund a refurbishment of Old North Woolwich Station, an educational social enterprise near the station and an arts hub in the Carlsberg and Tetley Building in Royal Docks Silvertown.

Boris Johnson said that it was important to nurture creativity, which he believes will provide a foundation for further economic success in Newham.

“High streets and town centres the length and breadth of London are a hive of economic activity fuelled by creative minds,” he said. “It’s important that we make sure they continue to meet the needs of a rapidly evolving city and the talented people who are key to its future success.”

He said the London Regeneration Fund aims to re-energise business across the capital by offering funding to successful bidders.

The bulk of funding for Newham will go to Royal Docks Silvertown, with £459,145 being allocated to put on “cultural events” designed to attract creative professionals.

The £362,995 allocated to Old North Woolwich Station will help establish indoor and outdoor arts studios for creative businesses.

It will also team up with Crossrail to create outdoor workspaces next to a community garden, which will be open for all.
