“I am delighted to welcome you to what is set to be an indispensable guide to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park across another exciting year of change.
Readers of the Newham Recorder will find out all they need to know about the reopening of the site including what will become the largest green public space in Europe boasting 560 acres of landscaped parklands and waterways.
More of the Park’s major sporting venues will open their doors to the public, providing a wide range of community sports while also playing host to a series of top-draw national and international sporting events.
Post-Olympic transformation works are also rapidly creating vibrant new centres of enterprise along with employment opportunities.
This is all part of our commitment to ensure a fitting and lasting legacy from a great Olympic and Paralympic Games for people living in neighbouring areas.
The aim is to reboot east London’s economy and trigger the creation of tens of thousands of new jobs.
While already there has been more achieved here in London than in any previous Olympic city, there is much hard work to be done.
This activity – along with information on how to get involved – is set to be detailed in this series with the aim of giving local people the inside track on what matters to them.
I hope these regular updates help you make the most of the Park in 2014 and beyond.”
Boris Johnson
Mayor of London
