Police stand guard by a body which has been found in the Bow Back river in Stratford

A body has been found in the Bow Back River in Stratford.

The man, believed to be aged between 40 and 50, was retrieved from the water near Marshgate Lane at around 12pm today.

Police officers, including the marine police, and the London Ambulance Service are at the scene.

The man was declared dead at the scene.

Officers are attempting to identify him and inform next of kin.

A post-mortem will be scheduled in due course.

At this early stage the incident is being treated as unexplained.

Enquiries continue.
