A junior school in Forest Gate has been graced with a visit by a bishop.

The Bishop of Barking, the Rt. Revd Peter Hill, went to St James Church of England School in Tower Hamlets Road last Wednesday to meet the pupils and speak to them about Christian values.

Headteacher Shirleyann Jones said that the bishop, who was consecrated in St Paul’s Cathedral in 2014, delivered an “inspirational” assembly where he reminded the children that it is not the outward appearance of someone that matters, but what’s inside.

Ms Jones said: “We were very privileged to have been visited by the Bishop of Baking at the school. Pupils and staff were very encouraged by his speech.”

Although his title is the Bishop of Barking, Rt. Reverend Hill’s ministry covers Barking and Dagenham, Havering, Newham, Redbridge and Waltham Forest, as well as Epping Forest and Harlow.
