Bishop’s message to commuters: ‘Come and join us’

Bishop makes personal invite

IT was the usual crush for travellers on the Central Line platform at Stratford Tube station during yesterday’s rush hour.

But there was an unfamiliar face among the travelling throng waiting for the Tube train to arrive.

The Rt Rev David Hawkins, Bishop of Barking, joined commuters to hand out personal requests, inviting people to “Come as you are” on Sunday for a Back to Church event.

The move highlighted the fact that many people can lose touch with the church because of long hours and the pressures of work.
