There is cause for a double celebration in Beckton as St Marks Church marked its third anniversary and City Chapel received 2,000 donations to its foodbank.

The foodbank – one of a growing network of more than 150 around the country – helps individuals and families in need by providing free emergency food and support.

Food is donated by church members, and by supermarkets including Lidl and Asda and by others in the community, stored and provided to people via referrals from registered care professionals.

Mr Timms – who was present at the inauguration of City Chapel three years ago – congratulated the congregation on their third anniversary.

He praised volunteers in the church for their work on projects like the Foodbank, and also paid tribute to the church’s energetic pastor, the Rev Jonathan Oloyede.
